about

This was the second release on the label, originally coming on 12 inch in 1995 and repressed with a different label around 8 years later. The drums on Star Of David were a Sly Dunbar sample. At that time you could buy officially licensed sample CDs for production purposes and I bought one full of loops laid down by Sly. I used a number of them – Naph-Tali’s “The 22nd Book” had another one and there were various others I used in other early productions.
Star Of David was played by a lot of sound systems, especially Aba Shanti I and it got a very good reaction.
The other side featured a remake of the riddim from Ketch Vampire by Devon Irons, a classic Lee Perry production. Scratch was one of the producers who was a big influence on me – I loved the Black Ark sound and Super Ape was the first dub album I ever bought. The original had long been a favourite of mine. I’d bought the dub cut simply known as “Vampire” when it came out on PM 7 inch in the late 1970’s and later I got the 12 inch with Dr Alimantado on the DJ cut plus the 7 inch with Devon Irons on vocal. Jah Shaka used to play the original on his sound and when my cut was released Shaka played it too. This was the first time Shaka had played one of my productions and it meant a lot to me because he was a major influence in my decision to get involved in sound system and later on production too.

The second Jah Warrior single, a 12" released in 1995. Produced by Jah Warrior, recorded at Conscious Sounds.
